Eliot was feeling much better about his position on the ship now. Particularly having quarters of his own, as meager as they were. It felt as if he were in a place now where he could improve upon things. And he hadn't even had to fuck anyone for it. Plus Winter's potion had worked, and he hadn't vomited in days.

Wearing the robes that Q had given him, having charmed them to a dark purple, Eliot went up to the deck for some air. This was really... not where he had imagined himself.

"Well, fine, prisoner if you'd prefer, but aren't people usually prisoners for a reason?" Eliot shrugged, uncomfortable. "It jus seems shitty to be keeping him here against his will."

"We are all free to leave the ship any time we like," John pointed out.

Then gestured to the vast sea surrounding them.

"It's just a little swim..."

Eliot rolled his eyes. "Sure, noted. Though honestly I get the impression that might not be true for our royal guest."

"No? Why not?" John asked, puffing his pipe thoughtfully. "Because he's Bound?"

He chuckled at that.

"Crew would have fucked him to death three days out of port if they hadn't."

“Jesus Christ,” Eliot muttered, uncomfortable.

[petty_dabbler]

John watched him a moment, puffing his pipe.

"Maybe the pirate life isn't for you," he agreed. "But until you can learn to control that little problem you've got, you need to train."

"I'd consider being a rapist to be a problem too," Eliot said. "You encouraging them to learn to control that?"

[petty_dabbler]

"Oh yes. Daily. Because everyone aboard hangs on my every word and does what I say," John replied, then scoffed again dryly.

Eliot just rolled his eyes. He wasn't some wilting flower, but he didn't see how you could just casually throw the expectation of gang rape out there as if it was nothing. "Well listening to you isn't going to help my problem either," he said.

"Listening to me is the only thing that's going to help your problem, Eliot. You're going to kill someone if you don't learn to control your power," John scolded mildly.

Eliot crossed his arms over his chest. "Well? I'm listening."

He was grateful to John for giving him purpose again, but it wasn't like he'd done anything to suggest he could help him with that.

John had nothing to say for a moment as he packed a new pipe. But once he was ready, he pointed the stem at Eliot.

"Tell me about your family, lad," he insisted, rather than offer anything helpful.

Eliot practically recoiled. "Ugh, why? I haven't spoken to any of them in years. Even my mother, who is a perfectly nice woman but had the piss poor judgment to have married my asshole of a father."

"Your mum," he said, sniffled and cleared his throat, then braced for a punch.

"She a...faithful sort of woman?"

Eliot wasn't offended exactly; he'd fallen out too hard with his family to care about their honor, even his mother's. But he did narrow his eyes a little and say, "I assume you're getting at something with that question."

"I'm just saying...wild magic doesn't come frome average asshole husbands," he said.

He puffed his pipe thoughtfully.

"Usually comes from magic blood."

Eliot's mouth opened, then closed again.

"Well I guess that would explain a lot." Including why his father seemed to hate him so fucking much.

[petty_dabbler]

"It would," John nodded.

"I could investigate, if you like. Maybe find an answer," he continued.

[eliot_thespectacular]

"Would it help me gain control of it?" Eliot asked. "I mean, knowing... who it was?" Pause. "Oh fuck, is the question actually what it was? You're really suggesting I'm not entirely human?"

John gave him a pointed look and a small nod.

"No shame in a popular mum," he noted.

[eliot_thespectacular]

"I mean, good for her, frankly," Eliot muttered. And then finally said, "Sure, look into it. But not because I'm looking for a... daddy. I just want to be a better wizard."

John reached out and laid his arm around Eliot's shoulders, guiding him across the deck.

"Let's go find out what we can before the moon sets, hmm?" he suggested.

Eliot went with him, but did groan softly and say, "This is going to involve me bleeding into a cup or something isn't it?"

"Hopefully you won't find it that unpleasant," John said.

He took Eliot to his own door- no way John would risk Winter walking in.

"Can you do a lock charm?" he asked as he closed the door.

"Sure," said Eliot, and used a hand gesture to do a quick spell to lock the door. At least he could unlock it if he needed to escape or something."
